What if we could plant Coral?
This was our reply when our client asked:
"How can we give back to our planet?"
A Corporate Social Responsibility project for a Hong Kong-based client.
The coastal waters of Hong Kong used to be a paradise for coral reefs.
But overfishing, pollution, and other industrial activities have decimated them tragically.
In the last century, the Earth has lost 50% of coral reefs worldwide, and 90% of these vital ecosystems will disappear by 2050, primarily because of unsustainable human activities. Corals cover only 1% of the explored ocean floor but are of vital importance for the entire marine ecosystem. They provide food and shelter to fish, as well as food and coastal protection to humans.
For this project, we brought together a team including expert marine biologists, local talent, and our production team to create a spotlight on planting corals, just like planting trees!

What we created
A successful Marketing Video Campaign with five on-line videos and one in-store-screened video for the launch of a new store for our client Chow Sang Sang 周生生 in Hong Kong.
This generated 3 million+ views across YouTube and Instagram and
a 3-years Coral Restoration Project to regenerate and expand the coral reef coverage in Hong Kong waters.

The Science Behind the Project
We teamed up with marine biologists from Archireef, a nature technology company that is dedicated to restoring degraded marine ecosystems.
Corals grow on rocky portions of the seabed, but Hong Kong's degraded ocean floor doesn't provide the right environment for it to thrive.
So Archireef engineered the first 3D-printed terracotta clay reef tiles, which are 100% eco-friendly and create the conditions for corals to grow again.
After an underwater site survey to gather environmental data, Archireef deployed the tiles and seeded them with coral fragments.
This three-year project will allow corals to thrive again under the careful watch of scientists, helping to restore and regenerate the marine ecosystem in Hong Kong.
The long-term fight against climate change starts with small steps like these.
